When Saturday Comes
The Half Decent Football Magazine
Issue 393, December 2019
48 S.

“WSC needs your help” erklärt das Editorial: “When we launched in 1986, we did not expect this magazine to become a full-time business, let alone to be in sight of our 400th issue due in June 2020. That we are still here is down to you, our loyal readers.” Aber auch hier führen sinkende Zeitschriftenverkäufe und die nur geringfügigen Einnahmen im Onlinebereich zur Existenzbedrohung. “The simple fact is that WSC as a print magazine is no longer self-sustaining. We have cut costs as much as possible, including closing our permanent office. We’d like to think we’d be missed if we weren’t here. So we need your help to continue.” Deshalb wurde ein WSC Supporters’ Club gegründet, mit dem man auf verschiedenen Wegen den Erhalt der Zeitschrift finanziell unterstützen kann.

Im Match of the month erzählt Taylor Pakres aus Bournemouth, wo er erstmals nach zehn Jahren wieder ein Spiel besuchte: “In such a small stadium, you see everything clearly. Premier League players look like superheroes nowadays, with massive upper bodies and self-conscious moody stares, and on a good day they’ll at least live up to that, with feats of dexterity and ludicrous athleticism. But today it’s 2009 again, and this may as well be a League Two relegation clash. All I see is blokes sprinting into each other; all I hear is the mighty thud of yet another block tackle.”

Themen im Heft sind u.a. Fernsehrechte, Rassismus in Bulgarien oder der Scottish Cup.
