Einen jüngsten Fall in Middlesbrough, wo zwei Journalisten einer lokalen Zeitung vom Verein vom Zugang ausgeschlossen wurden, nimmt Neil Cumins zum Anlass, gegen den Trend von PR statt Journalismus zu wettern: „The internet is already awash with rumours and hyperbole, and fake news is often indistinguishable from the truth. Meanwhile, those official press releases are sycophantic and sanitised to a degree North Korea would be proud of. Rather than meekly accepting PR department propaganda, we need to support local publications that report what is really happening, helping to pay the wages of journalists willing to ask those important questions.“
Zum Saisonstart erinnert Jon Spurling an missglückte Debutspiele von neuen Spielern und Drew Whitworth besuchte das Vorbereitungsspiel von Salford City gegen den FC United of Manchester, wo sich auch zwei Konzepte gegenüberstanden (Investoren gegen Fanverein). Weitere Artikel berichten u.a. aus Frankreich und Brasilien.
Im Beilagenheft zu Saisonbeginn werden die Vereine der vier englischen Profiligen und der ersten schottischen Liga mit bewährtem Fragebogen von jeweiligen Fans vorgestellt. „How will you do? Which teams did you like and dislike most last season? What was the best moment of last season? What was the worst moment of last season? What ohne thing would most improve your matchday expericence?“ Nur bei den MK Dons steht sei Jahr und Tag: No questions asked. Das ist gut und richtig so.
