Den Betrieb des großen Fußballgeschäfts hat COVID-19 kaum beeinträchtigt, die Welt der Fußballfans aber komplett. Von Eindrücken eines englischen Spiels zwischen Oxford City und Dulwich Hamlet im Dezember 2020, bei dem 200 Zuschauerinnen und Zuschauer zugelassen waren, erzählt Gavin Barber im Heft: „The Covid safety guidelines on the club website had included an instruction for spectators to ,take extreme care when shouting‘. I confess that when the home side’s Elliot Benyon was harshly yellow-carded near the end of the game, I may have been less than scrupulously diligent in expressing my views towards the referee.“
Aus Schottland berichtet wiederum Daniel Gray über ein Coronazeiten-Erlebnis bei der Anfahrt zum Spiel in Cowdenbeath: „The train from Edinburgh canters over the Forth Bridge, low winter sun flickering through its beams and giving a Zoetrope effect. ,I says to the doctor,‘ barks a woman into her mobile phone ,it’s a phlegmy cough, not a Covid one.‘ In this era, such a declaration is the equivalent of a rough lad arriving at a quiet party. I am not alone in moving to another carriage.“
